In a letter to his Greek counterpart, the Russian FM Sergei Lavrov has expressed his condolences for the loss of the anti-Fascist fighter and composer Mikis Theodorakis, stressing his invaluable contribution to the global Greek heritage and the importance of his fight against Fascism and Nazism from the ranks of the Greek Resistance, which set an example for present and future generations.
Lavrov reminds us that Theodorakis was known in Russia as a great friend of the Russian people and as a defender of freedom and peace, who contributed to the strengthening of Greek-Russian cultural relations and to the friendship between Greece and Russia.
On Saturday 4 September, within the context of an international music festival held in Red Square, the organisers paid tribute to Mikis Theodorakis, while the Greek flag, along with his photo, were projected onto the Kremlin’s walls.
