A summit and a rally in Washington D.C. on July 6-7, 2024
Some find it hard to believe, but NATO is planning a big celebration of 75 years of itself, with meetings beginning July 9, 2024, in Washington, D.C., at which we can expect many presidents, prime ministers, foreign secretaries, and weapons dealers.
We are planning a summit on Saturday July 6 and a rally on Sunday July 7, as well as various other actions in the days before and after that weekend — including working with Veterans For Peace planning a peace walk from Maine to join us in Washington, D.C. with events all along the way.
We say yes to peace and no to NATO!
We favor the abolition of NATO.
These events do not support any governments or political candidates, and we ask that people not bring national flags or campaign signs.

What is NATO & why we’re opposing it
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) functions to promote the military power of the member imperialist countries. This comes in the form of supporting their sanctions, military exercises, as well as cyberwarfare and mass surveillance efforts. NATO also lobbies for the increased engorgement of the military budgets and spending of member states. The US is at the helm of NATO – has access to any NATO military base across the globe and acts as the primary decision maker for NATO missions, therefore having the power of NATO’s member states at its fingertips for imperialist ventures.
NATO acts as an armed wing of US-led war and mobilizes its member nations to instigate and militarily support inter-imperialist conflicts, recently between US-NATO and Russia, and between US and China. NATO continues to support so-called “Israel” as the main outpost of US imperialism in the Middle East.
The upcoming NATO summit, held July 9-11, 2024 in Washington DC, is marked by the 75th anniversary of its founding. Summits are meetings of the highest level of the North Atlantic Council, composed of heads of state and government officials. At these key points in NATO’s decision-making process, major policies are introduced, initiatives are launched, new members are brought in. This year will focus on Ukraine’s membership in NATO, and marks the largest NATO-led military exercises since the Cold War in hosting the Steadfast Defender exercises with over 90,000 troops. Mobilizing to expose and oppose the NATO summit is applying our collective strength to reject the anti-people convening of warmongers coordinating imperialist violence across the globe.
Resist NATO Coalition
Points of Unity
We oppose NATO as a US-led military alliance that is a prime actor in imperialist wars of aggression and military occupation resulting in the deaths and displacement of millions of people.
We oppose US-NATO strategy of expansionism and intensification of militarization across Africa, Asia,Latin America, and Eastern Europe, at the service of US geopolitical and economic interests.
We oppose US-NATO strategy of security through wars of counter-“terrorism”, counterinsurgency, mass surveillance.
We support the right of peoples and nations to self-determination and sovereignty, and their right to resistance against imperialist aggression.
We support a just peace though resolving the root causes of armed conflicts, allocating resources not to the war industry but to serve people’s needs.
