Lara Elborno told Al Jazeera that Israel must be held accountable after “committing the first live-streamed genocide assisted with artificial intelligence”.
“This accountability must be pursued, whether it’s before international jurisdictions, like the International Criminal Court, or before national courts using the principles of extraterritorial jurisdiction or universal jurisdiction,” she said.
She said accountability should not just be confined to Israeli leaders whom she labelled “the architects of the genocide”, but also to the soldiers “that enforced and executed the genocide, and who found themselves, in many cases, gleefully carrying out the destruction of civilian homes and targeting Palestinian civilians”.
Elborno added that countries that were complicit with this genocide, in particular the United States, should also be held accountable.
“There’s no statute of limitations on international crimes of this nature, and so we’re going to see this process unfold over a number of years to come” she noted.
