“The chickensh** club” is a phrase coined by James Comey after he was US attorney for the Southern District of New York back in 2002. The title means he was head of an office of over 200 assistant US attorneys. Several months into his job, Comey, who would later head the FBI for four years before being dismissed by US President Donald Trump in 2017 in what some saw as an obstruction-of-justice move, called a staff meeting.
As reported by Jesse Eisinger in his book, The Chickensh** Club: Why the Justice Department Fails to Prosecute Executives, “Comey asked the seated prosecutors a question, ‘Who here has never had an acquittal or a hung jury. Please raise your hand.’ The go-getters and resume builders in the office were ready. This group thought themselves the best trial lawyers in the country. Hands shot up. Backs straightened in preparation for praise. Comey looked at his flock with approbation. ‘You are members of what we like to call the Chickensh** Club’.”

The Trump Administration has delivered yet another concession to Israel’s embattled Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the eve of parliamentary elections: the Israeli military occupation of much of the Palestinian West Bank and of the Golan Heights will no longer be referred to in official U.S. government documents as an occupation. America’s so-called Ambassador to Israel is a former Trump lawyer named David Friedman who is more involved in serving Israel than the United States. He personally supports the view that the illegal Jewish settlements are legitimately part of Israel, choosing to ignore their growth even though it has long been U.S. policy to oppose them. He has also long sought to change the State Department’s language on the Israeli control of the West Bank and Golan Heights, being particularly concerned about the expression “occupied,” which has legal implications. Now he appears to have won that fight, to the delight of the Netanyahu government.

Cruz says administration’s Golan Heights policy is ‘tremendous’
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz called President Donald Trump’s decision last week to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights a “tremendous” move Sunday.
“What the President did this week was tremendous. He recognized that the Golan Heights is legitimately now a part of Israel. That’s something I’ve been pushing for, for over a year,” Cruz told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union.”
“I think it is good foreign policy for Israel, and it’s good foreign policy for the United States,” the Texas senator said, adding that he has previously introduced legislation in the past several months that recognizes Israel’s control over the region.

On Sunday, Attorney General William Barr sent a letter to Congress, summarizing the findings of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. The most telling section, quoted directly from Mueller’s report, read:
“[T]he investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”
That one sentence should end a roughly 33-month national ordeal (the first Russigate stories date back to July 2016) in which the public was encouraged, both by officials and the press, to believe Donald Trump was a compromised foreign agent.

Release the Mueller Report—Immediately and Completely

Special counsel Robert Mueller has concluded a 22-month investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and allegations that Donald Trump has engaged in egregious wrongdoing as a candidate and as the president of the United States. Mueller has produced what is described as a “comprehensive” report on his inquiry, and that report is now in the hands of the man Trump recently selected to head the Department of Justice.
This is an urgent moment for the country. Yet, upon receiving the report, Attorney General Robert Barr indicated to Congress that he “may be in a position to advise you of the Special Counsel’s principal conclusions as soon as this weekend.” That is not the language of transparency.
