Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made a discovery that most obviously shocked him. He discovered that there are people who “depend on their salary” in order to come along through the days, the months, the years. Yes. Thanks Goodness., the PM who govern this country is fully aware that there are people who do not have assets at the banks or dozens of real estates or shares in profitable companies to ensure them a comfortable living whether in lockdown or not.
The statement of a PM who was born in a wealthy family and probably never had to depend on a salary to make ends meet was made during the live press conference on Thursday, when he announced to millions of “addicted to salary Greeks,” the second lockdown.
“We took the decision for lockdown, I know there is insecurity, I know there are people depending on their salaries. We’ll do every effort to support these citizens,” Mitsotakis said knocking his fist to add emphasis and determination to his statement busting of arrogance and intentional ignorance.
This statement confirms that neither the Prime Minister who is supposed to care for the citizens’ needs nor those advisers surrounding him, the indigenous “born to the purple” class, have any idea about the real life of real Greeks, are not aware of the current economic situation of millions in this country who struggled to survive a 10-year economic crisis and found themselves in the disastrous impact of a global pandemic.
Does the PM know how many millions of families in the country he rules live on 534 euro state aid -if at all – due to shut down businesses and suspended work contracts? Does he know that there are people who are not even entitled to this benefit due to several reasons? does he have any idea that mostly young people cannot find a job with more than 215 euros per month?
At the same presser, Mitsotakis admitted that the government failed to strengthen the public transport means network with the effect that million commuters are packed each and every day, at least twice a day in buses, trolley buses, the metro and urban trains.
“We cannot give birth to buses,” the PM said joking…
Coronavirus transmission? Some of the epidemiologists working for the state claimed on TV channels that “there is no transmission in buses…”
None of them ever presented a scientific report to confirm the claim. Just like the priests who claim the virus cannot be transmitted inside the church or via the Holy communion where dozens share the same spoon.
PS Indicative for the current ruling class is that Mitsotakis’ wife had a lengthy interview with the Financial Times beginning of the week where she disclosed her exquisite and of high aesthetic personal taste in furniture, arts, collection objects, brooches and who knows what else.
Is it typical for right wing New Democracy? No. Neither ex PM Karamanlis nor his successor Samaras felt the need to show off with their families’ wealth.
