Turkey claims “sovereign rights” over the Greek island of Kastellorizo
December 6, 2020
Turkey is claiming “sovereign rights” over the Greek island of Kastellorizo and will ‘never compromise on this,” the Foreign Ministry in Ankara said on Saturday.
The post of the Turkish Foreign Ministry comes ahead of the EU Summit next week, where EU leaders will discuss sanctions on Turkey due to its provocative and tension stirring behavior in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
“No sanctions will ever make Turkey compromise on its sovereign rights in Kastellorizo or 10 nautical miles air space,” the statement said among others.
Calling Greece “the spoiled child of Europe,” Ankara calls on its neighbor to “engage in unconditional dialogue better sooner than later.”
