Labour ‘surge’ continues and Tory lead shrinks, as Donald Trump flies to UK for Nato summit

Boris Johnson was criticised for attempting to exploit the London Bridge attack as the father of victim Jack Merritt pleaded with the PM – “don’t use my son’s death” for political gain.

Meanwhile Labour cut the Tory lead in a series of new polls, with the party at its highest level since the start of the campaign. Jeremy Corbyn announced plans to slash regulated rail fares in England by a third if he wins the general election.

Nigel Farage, meanwhile, faced criticism for calling the Lib Dem leader “that Swinson girl” and dismissing Donald Trump’s boast about grabbing women “by the p***y” as the kind of thing “said on a night out after a drink”.
