Implications of the Netanyahu Throne Speech to Congress and the Challenges Ahead of the Palestinians

Ambassador
Marwan Emil Toubasi

In his speech before the US Congress, Benjamin Netanyahu witnessed the boycott of a large number of representatives of the Democratic Party, especially from the progressive movement in it, and a banner calling him a war criminal raised by Rashida Tlaib, and massive protests outside the Congress building from demonstrators, in light of the escalation of the forms of war of extermination, deportation and displacement against our people.

Through the speech, Netanyahu sought to strengthen American support for Israel, especially in the context of the ongoing conflict in the region and the continued colonial settlement occupation. In his speech, he touched on his defense of the justifications for the aggressive war in Gaza and his criticism of the demonstrations against his policies, which he accused of siding with the axis of evil in this world. Netanyahu has tried to escape from the crises facing his fascist government in Israel and try to gain American sympathy in supporting the last racist colonial regime , but his speech will increase the tension between the Israeli government and some Democratic members of the Congress, and reinforce the division in the United States regarding its support for Israel. especially With the ongoing transformations in international public opinion towards the status and role of israel the occupying state and the overwhelming support from the peoples of the world and a large number of countries for the necessity of ending the occupation and implementing the right to self-determination for our Palestinian people, including broad popular American sectors.

Today, this speech, which was criticized by many Democratic representatives of Congress and from Israeli as well as Jewish-American circles, constitutes an additional opportunity and incentive for us the Palestinians and our prograssive friends around the world to escalate international solidarity and to accelerate efforts to consolidate Palestinian national unity on the basis of the unity of the land and all of our one people and to develop and expand the PLO as a title and the only legitimate representative framework in order to implement what was agreed upon between the Palestinian factions in Beijing a few days ago, first and foremost the formation of a national consensus government to quickly confront and stop the aggression, whether it is in Gaza or the West Bank or Jerusalem, agree on a clear national vision and program, and push towards escalating International efforts towards a solution based on ending the occupation first in accordance with the principle of the international option for a two-state solution and in support of the decisions of the International Court of Justice a few days ago in order to increase Israel’s isolation in international forums and the necessity of suspending its membership and declaring the Palestinian state under occupation without delay and completing its full membership in the United Nations with the necessity of urging all countries, not only to Condemning the crimes of the occupying state, but boycotting this facist regime of colonialism and apartheid, and it may be possible today to rehabilitate the United Nations resolution condemning Zionism, which was canceled after international changes in 1991.

In his speech, which was filled with lies and falsification of the facts of history, Netanyahu spoke about the struggle of good and evil, a vision that is completely consistent with the vision of the Evangelicals and Christian Zionists regarding the War of Armageddon. Netanyahu was keen to gain the support of conservative Republicans in this so-called Biblical vision, which he aimed to spread the idea of the services Israel provides to the United States and strengthen the American-Israeli alliance under the current or next American administration with the possibility of Trump winning, who had announced upcoming wars for the sake of peace !

The attack on American universities and the demonstrations, along with his clear support for Republicans and Christian Zionists, reflected his blatant interference in American internal affairs, which may exacerbate the political division in the United States. This approach may strengthen the ties between the Israeli and American governments at the official level, but it may increase tensions between the Israeli government and progressive democratic groups in Congress, especially if the Democratic Party wins, and with broad segments of American society that have been demonstrating for a year.

The warm applause that Netanyahu received from Republicans and some of the Democrats alike, which is rarely received by an American president, reflects the strong support for him and for Israeli policies from conservatives in particular in the US Congress and even a number of Democrats, and indicates the fall of these people together to the depths of the culture of terrorism, exploitation and colonial thought . The applause also reflects appreciation for the close relationship between Israel and the United States, the role that Israel plays as a strategic ally in the Middle East, and the fundamental purpose of establishing it at the expense of our historical rights.

The support of successive American administrations for Netanyahu’s extreme right-wing policies is due to several strategic reasons, including Israel’s security: Republicans, along with a number of Democratic circles, led by Biden, see Israel as an essential ally against regional threats and confronting the interests of the United States. Ideological and religious compatibility: common right-wing values and religious values based on the Biblical Old Testament, as well as identification with the values of Western civilization in the face of the East culture in addition to the similarity of the approach of establishing the United States and Israel according to the policies of ethnic cleansing of the owners of the land here and there. Domestic Support: Attracting the support of pro-Israel American voters, including Christian Zionists who constitute an important electoral base. Foreign policies: Strengthening the influence of the United States in the Middle East through a strong alliance with Israel in attempts to implement the new Middle East project and considering Israel as the line of defense of the colonial West. Economic and financial interests: which are represented by control over energy, gas, trade routes, military industrial interests, and Jewish money.

On the other hand, Netanyahu’s speech may be considered a form of interference in American internal affairs, especially through veiled support for the policies of Donald Trump and the Republicans. Netanyahu has shown his support for the Republicans and for Trump indirectly through his positions and statements that are in line with the Republican agenda, which may be interpreted as a kind of influence on the upcoming presidential elections. This type of support strengthens the alliance between the Israeli leadership and the American right, but it may raise criticism from a growing number of Democrats and opponents who see it as interference in American politics despite the continued support provided by the Democratic Party for the policies of the occupying state and even its partner with it, especially with the ongoing genocide. Collectivism in Gaza and Biden’s Zionism.

If Trump wins the upcoming presidential elections and Netanyahu continues to rule, this will likely lead to increased tension and exacerbation of conflicts in the Middle East and other regions around the world in a greater and clearer way. Trump and Netanyahu share hard-line policies towards Iran and resistance organizations in the region, which may increase the possibility of military escalation. Their mutual support may also encourage more aggressive steps against our people, such as expanding settlements in the West Bank and annexing areas or carrying out large-scale military operations, which will exacerbate the situation in the region and increase the possibilities of new wars.

On the other hand, with the rise of the extreme far populist right in Europe, Trump’s victory in the presidential elections, and Netanyahu continuing to rule according to his vision, which he reflected in the speech, a strong alliance triangle could be formed between Washington, Brussels, and Tel Aviv. This alliance may lead to increased tensions in international politics due to the adoption of more stringent policies towards issues such as immigration, internal security, and relations with other countries such as Iran, and the repercussions of this on international peace and security, which may include increasing regional conflicts, worsening humanitarian crises, and increasing frictions with major powers such as Russia and China.

Netanyahu’s speech emphasized the necessity of Hamas’ surrender as a condition for ending the war, which can be interpreted as a clear rejection of any negotiating initiative that includes signing an agreement in support of those proposals that had previously been presented by Biden and were approved by a resolution in the Security Council, which indicates that he has no intentions, no. To sign the exchange deal or to stop the war. Netanyahu’s criticism of the Israeli opposition in his speech reflects his attempt to strengthen his internal position against criticism. This hard-line position could complicate American efforts to broker a ceasefire agreement and increase tensions, which is what Netanyahu wants, making it difficult to achieve long-term stability in the region and undermining the administration’s hypocritical verbal stance. The American statement on the establishment of a Palestinian state despite its empty content, also threatens any possibility of regional stability in the region.

As a result, the throne speech at the expense of the blood of our people in front of the colonial masters of the US Congress , who have become small today in the face of peoples’ struggle for their freedoms and rights, reflected Netanyahu’s weakness and strategic and political failure. His speech was characterized by the spirit of colonial speech, his megalomania, and reliance on the blatant scarecrow of anti-Semitism and the international judicial enemy. Represented by the International Criminal and Justice Courts and the Iranian threat to the axis of good, it did not provide any horizon even for the families of the Israeli soldiers imprisoned, and it increased the division between the two American parties and exacerbated the crises of Israeli society itself. All of this is in an attempt to escalate the situation in the Middle East as an escape from any political solutions that might destroy his political and personal future on the one hand and attempts to continue implementing the replacement Zionist project, which is dying today due to their crises and all the local, regional and international changes on the other hand.
