French lawmakers on Tuesday backed a security accord with Ukraine in a vote in the National Assembly Tuesday. However, the far-right National Rally, led by Marine Le Pen, and the hard left France Unbowed party, led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, refused to throw their support behind Macron. Mélenchon’s party has even signaled it would not support a path for Ukraine to join either the EU or NATO. France 24’s Clovis Casali examines some of the reasons why.
