U.S., France and U.K. Strike Syria Over Chemical Attack

The United States, together with France and the U.K., carried out precision air strikes against targets in Syria related to the Bashar Assad regime’s ability to use chemical weapons following a suspected nerve gas attack on the Syrian town of Douma last Saturday.
Explosions were heard in Damascus, Aleppo and Homs early Saturday. According to reports, eight targets were attacked with 30 missiles, including two research centers in Damascus believed to have produced chemical weapons.
“The evil and the despicable attack left mothers and fathers, infants and children, thrashing in pain and gasping for air,” Trump said in a televised address from the White House Friday evening. “These are not the actions of a man; they are crimes of a monster instead,” Trump said.

In the first wave, the three allies targeted the Mezza military airport outside Damascus, Arzza and the Jamarya “research center” formerly struck by Israel, also two chemical sites near Homs. President Donald Trump said he had approved US military precision strikes against Syria in collaboration with the UK and France in response to a chemical attack that killed more than 70 people. Trump spoke in a television statement early Saturday, April 14, as explosions were heard in Damascus. Syria reported intercepting at least 13 incoming missiles. Russia said the action would not be left “without consequences.”

US and imperialist allies launch strikes against Syria

President Donald Trump announced Friday night that he had ordered a US assault on Syria. French and British forces are actively participating, while US allies around the world are providing diplomatic support. Sites in Damascus and elsewhere in the country have been attacked already, by both ship-launched cruise missiles and airstrikes.
The onslaught that has begun against Syria is an illegal act of aggression. The administrations of Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May are presiding over yet another imperialist war crime, which this time poses the immense danger of triggering a conflict with nuclear-armed Russia.
