African states demand Trump apologise for racist remark

The African group of ambassadors to the United Nations has demanded an apology from Donald Trump, after the US president reportedly aimed a racist remark at some Caribbean nations and Africa.
Trump criticised immigration to his country from El Salvador, Haiti and the African continent, by calling the group “shithole countries” at a meeting with Congress members at the White House on Thursday, according to US media.

Trump’s racist comments trigger international condemnation

The already battered international standing of the US government has been dealt a further blow by the revelation that President Trump labeled some of the most oppressed and impoverished nations as “shithole countries.” Disgust and anger over the openly racist comments the US president made at a meeting with congressional leaders on Thursday have only been intensified by Trump’s belated and obviously dishonest attempts to deny that he said what has been reported by multiple sources, including some who were at the meeting.
The remarks were made at a White House conference with Democratic and Republican lawmakers on immigration policy. In response to a discussion on “temporary protected status,” which allows people from countries ravaged by natural disasters or war, such as Haiti and El Salvador, to live and work in the US, Trump said: “What do we want Haitians here for? Why do we want all these people from Africa here? Why do we want all these people from shithole countries? We should have more people from places like Norway.”

‘Why Would Norwegians Go to #Shithole US?!’ Twitter Asks Trump

Norwegians and others took to Twitter to list reasons they would never go to the United States after President Trump’s recent comments on immigration.

After President Donald Trump said instead of taking in people from “shithole” countries, the U.S. “should have more people from Norway” social media users mocked his comment pointing out that for people living in the happiest country in the world the United States is the shithole.
Trump’s controversial remarks calling countries in Africa and others like Haiti and El Salvador “shitholes”, which were widely condemned at home and abroad for being racist, were followed by: “We should have more people from Norway.” Some took to social media to highlight Norway’s whiteness but others mockingly informed the president that Norwegians have no reason to go to the U.S.

Donald Trump has been branded a shocking and shameful racist after it was credibly reported he had described African nations, as well as Haiti and El Salvador as “shitholes” and questioned why so many of their citizens had ever been permitted to enter America.
US diplomats around the world were summoned for formal reproach, amid global shock that such crude remarks could ever be made in a semi-public meeting by the president of America.
In a strongly-worded statement, the UN said it was impossible to describe his remarks as anything other than racist, while the Vatican decried Trump’s words as “particularly harsh and offensive”.
The 55-nation African Union said the remarks were “clearly racist”
