Abu Obeida’s First Ceasefire Speech: The Final Nail in the Occupation’s Coffin

Jan 19, 2025

Abu Obeida delivered a powerful speech today outlining the pivotal moments of the Battle of the Flood of Al-Aqsa and its impact on the region.

Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, delivered a videotaped speech on Sunday, reflecting on the 15-month-long struggle against the Israeli occupation and the significant changes brought about by the Battle of the Flood of Al-Aqsa.

He discussed how the battle reshaped the regional landscape and created new dynamics in the ongoing conflict with the occupier.

These are the key points from Abu Obeida’s speech:

  • “471 days have passed since the historic Battle of the Flood of Al-Aqsa, which undoubtedly drove the final nail into the coffin of the occupation that is now on its way to vanishing.”
  • “The immense sacrifices and the blood shed by our people will not be in vain.”
  • “Our people have made unprecedented sacrifices for their freedom and for their sanctities during these 471 days.”
  • “We feel the great pain that our people endure, which comes as the price for liberating the land, the people, and the holy sites.”
  • “Reaching an agreement to stop the Zionist aggression against our people has been our goal for many months, even from the very start of the aggression.”
  • “We, along with the resistance factions, declare our full commitment to the ceasefire agreement, but this is contingent upon the enemy’s commitment.”
  • “We call on all mediators to hold the enemy accountable and ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.”
  • “We extend our thanks to our brothers in Ansar Allah and our comrades in arms in Hezbollah, who paid a heavy price during our battle.”
  • “We salute the Islamic Resistance in Iraq and our brothers in Jordan who crossed the border to confront the occupier.”
  • “The Battle of the Flood of Al-Aqsa began from the outskirts of Gaza, but it has changed the face of the region and introduced new equations in the conflict with the occupying entity.”
  • “This battle led to the opening of new fronts and forced the enemy to seek international support.”
  • “We fought alongside all the resistance factions as a united front throughout Gaza, delivering devastating blows to the enemy.”

  • “Our Mujahideen fought with immense courage until the final hours of the battle, operating under what seemed like impossible conditions.”
  • “We were up against an unequal confrontation, both in terms of combat capabilities and in combat ethics.”
  • “While we struck at the enemy, they resorted to brutal and heinous methods of violence against our people.”
  • “The greatness of this battle is reflected in the leadership of its martyrs, including (Ismail) Haniyeh, (Saleh) al-Arouri, and (Yahya) Sinwar.”
  • “Any attempts to integrate this entity into the region will be met with a flood of awareness and resistance from free peoples.”
  • “Today, the responsibility on our people in the West Bank is growing, and we offer a special salute to Jenin, the sister city of Gaza in its heroism and steadfastness.”
  • “We receive millions of messages of support from across the Arab and Islamic world, and we know that we are one with you, and you are one with us.”

Abu Obeida’s speech marks a reflection on the sacrifices made during the 15-month-long conflict and expresses a resolute commitment to resistance while calling for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and continued unity among resistance groups.

“God has decreed: ‘I and My messengers will prevail: for God is strong and almighty.'” [Quran, 58, 21]

All praise is due to God, the Protector of the believers, the Supporter of His striving servants, the One who humiliates the tyrants and the arrogant, and the One who crushes the oppressors, even if it takes time. Praise be to God, who has fulfilled His promise, aided His servant, honored His army, and defeated the factions alone.

May peace and blessings be upon our leader and Imam, the best of those who fought, struggled, and prepared—our Prophet and role model, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

“Our word has already been decreed for Our servants, the messengers, that indeed they would be the ones who would be supported, and that indeed Our soldiers would be the victors.” [Quran, 61, 14]

O masses of our Palestinian people, our Arab and Islamic nation, and o the free people of the world,

At this historic moment in our people’s decades-long jihad and struggle, which will have lasting consequences, we direct all expressions of pride, dignity, and praise to you, our people in the proud Gaza Strip.

O you who are part of the victorious group [reference to the Prophet’s saying “There will always be a group of my Ummah who will be victorious, and they will not be harmed by those who oppose them or desert them until the command of God comes.”]. O people of Gaza, the noble people of Gaza, the people of martyrs, the wounded, the prisoners, and the missing. You who believed the promise, were patient, and endured pains that no one else before you has borne, who encountered hardships that no one else has faced, and fulfilled the trust as it deserves—worthy of it. You redeemed at the moment of redemption, gave at the moment of giving, endured with patience in places of patience, fought in places of jihad, and received the highest honor, with God’s permission. I congratulate you on your steadfastness, your jihad, your patience, your giving, and your sacrifices. “Peace be upon you for your patience, and what an excellent reward awaits in the hereafter.” [Quran, 13, 24]

At this moment, we stand in reverence before the martyrs, including children, women, elders, scholars, mujahideen, doctors, media professionals, civil defense personnel, security forces, government and police officers, tribal members, and families—those who rose for the most honorable battle, the greatest cause: the battle to defend Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and Al-Aqsa in the Battle of “Al-Aqsa Flood.”

Salutations to those who remained steadfast to the covenant, who continued and completed the path, carrying the banner after them. Like the “prophets fought, and with them fought large bands of godly men. But they never lost heart for what they suffered in God’s way, nor did they weaken, nor did they yield. And God loves the steadfast.” [Quran, 3, 146]

We stand in solemn honor before the martyred leaders whose remains were scattered in this battle: Ismail Haniyeh “Abu al-Abd,” may God have mercy on him, Yahya Sinwar “Abu Ibrahim,” may God have mercy on him, Sheikh Saleh al-Arouri “Abu Muhammad,” may God have mercy on him, and the brothers in the political and military leadership of the movement in Gaza. And the martyrs from all factions, the resistance and mujahideen factions, we do not exclude any of them. We say to them and to our people: The sale is profitable, o our leaders and martyrs. We will continue on the path of the martyred leaders until victory or martyrdom, God willing. [reference to Quran, 9, 111: “Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth in exchange for Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, they kill and are killed. It is a promise binding upon Him in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an. And who is truer to His covenant than Allah? So rejoice in the bargain which you have concluded. And that is the supreme success.“]

Our great people, our Arab and Islamic nation, and the free people of the world,

The battle of “Al-Aqsa Flood” was a significant turning point in the history of our cause and the stages of resistance by our great people, and the impact of this battle will endure and will not cease, God willing, with the end of this battle. What happened on October 7—a miracle, a military achievement, and a security triumph carried out by the Qassam elite—will remain the pride of our people and our resistance, passed down from generation to generation. Our people will regain their full rights, God willing, and this occupation will soon be expelled from our land, from Al-Quds and the holy sites, God willing.

The brutal war of extermination, the Nazi crimes, and the inhumane acts committed by the occupation and its supporters over 467 days will remain etched in the memory of our people and the world forever as the worst genocide in modern times, with all the pain, suffering, and colors of torment, which will remain a stain on the forehead of humanity and the silent, complacent world.

Our people will not forget those who participated in the war of annihilation, whether they provided political and media cover for it or supplied thousands of tons of bombs and explosives dropped on the heads of our people—our sons, daughters, and children in the Gaza Strip. We emphasize that all these criminals will face the consequences of their actions, even if it takes time.

Despite the horrors and hardships our people have endured—hardships so severe that they would age the youngest—we raise our heads high with our resistance, proud of our heroes, our fighters, and our patient people. Our enemy will not witness a moment of weakness or defeat from us.

On behalf of the orphans, children, widows, those whose homes have been destroyed, the families of martyrs, the wounded, and the grieving, on behalf of all victims, every drop of blood shed, and every tear of pain and suffering, we say in their name: We will not forget and we will not forgive. Yes, we will not forget and we will not forgive. No one among us, nor any of us, will relinquish the right to all these pains and sacrifices.

O our great people, our Arab and Islamic nation, and the free people of the world,

From the outset of the aggression, the occupation aimed to achieve numerous goals, some of which it openly declared, while others it kept hidden. It explicitly stated its intention to end the resistance, eradicate Hamas, forcibly retrieve prisoners, and reshape the region. However, its concealed and true goal was to liquidate the Palestinian cause, destroy the Gaza Strip, take revenge on its people, displace them, extinguish their will to be free, destroy all hopes, and undo the impact of the glorious October 7th Flood. But the criminal occupation collided with the steadfastness of our people and their attachment to their land, failing to achieve any of its declared or secret objectives. Our people remained on their land, did not leave or migrate, and became the fortified shield of their resistance.

The sons of the Al-Qassam Brigades, along with their comrades from other resistance factions, were trained by resistance fighters whose heroism and exceptional operations astonished the world. They continued until the very last moment of this war, fighting with honor and ethics, both in defense and offense. They carried out quality operations with unprecedented boldness, a courage unmatched by the world. They placed bombs, fired missiles, set up ambushes, and fought at gun point, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy, until occupation vehicles became nothing more than charred coffins. They, along with all the resistance fighters from the heroic factions, particularly the sons of the Al-Quds Brigades [armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad], brothers in the path of faith, heroism, and arms were the epitome of free guerrilla fighters. They sold their lives cheaply for the sake of God, their homeland, and in defense of their people.

Today, we prove that the occupation has not, and will not, defeat our people or their resistance, with God’s help. It has achieved nothing but ruin, destruction, and massacres against our people. It took back its prisoners only through an agreement with the resistance to halt the war and aggression, through an honorable exchange deal. Therefore, we say with certainty that the steadfastness of our people, their immense sacrifices, and the valor of their resistance have thwarted and failed the occupation’s goals—both declared and hidden. Our people’s will remains free, pure, and untainted by any weakness. It remains proud and dignified until the very last moment, by the grace of God, “He who supported you with His victory and with the believers.” [Quran, 8, 62]

O our loyal and giving people,

As we announce the conclusion of an agreement to halt the war and aggression today, we express our gratitude and thanks to all those who stood by us, our people, and our resistance during these difficult moments. In particular, we want to acknowledge our brothers on the support fronts in our brotherly Lebanon, where Hezbollah, with its hundreds of martyrs, including leaders and fighters on the path to Jerusalem, led by His Eminence the Secretary General, Sayed Hassan Nasrallah, and his leadership. We also remember the brothers in the Islamic Group in Lebanon and the Lebanese people, whose sacrifices and immense patience in defending and supporting our Palestinian people have been invaluable. They succeeded in making the occupation’s life a living hell, turning displacement into a reality, embodying true solidarity and brotherhood in both Islam and Arabism.

We also remember our brothers in Yemen, Ansar Allah, the brothers of truth, who transcended geographic distance and shifted the balance of the war and the region. They launched missiles and drones at the heart of the entity and besieged it in the Red Sea. Our gratitude extends to our brothers in the Islamic Republic of Iran, who have supported our resistance and our people. They participated in the battle and struck the heart of the entity with operations “Truthful Promise” 1 and 2. The Iraqi resistance also broke through all obstacles, contributing to the support of Palestine and its resistance, with their missiles and drones reaching our occupied land.

We express our deepest appreciation to our people, our revolutionary youth, and our heroic mujahideen in the blessed West Bank, especially those in the steadfast and heroic Jenin camp, Al-Quds, the occupied interior, and our people in exile and the diaspora. We also salute the Arab and Islamic peoples who have stood by us in this struggle.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the mediators in the dear State of Qatar and the esteemed Republic of Egypt, who have worked tirelessly and engaged in multiple rounds of negotiations since the first day of the aggression to reach this moment— the moment of ending the aggression and the war of annihilation against our people. We also remember and salute the bright stances of the nations that have stood with us in various fields, especially our brothers in Turkey, South Africa, Algeria, Russia, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and all countries that have taken honorable positions supporting the Palestinian cause and the oppressed in Gaza.

We also thank all the free people of the world—those who have supported us with words, writing, voice, images, marches, demonstrations, boycotts, and political, diplomatic, and legal efforts. These brave people broke the conspiracy of silence, exposed the occupation’s crimes against humanity in Gaza, and revealed the truth of the scene.

O great people of Gaza, we are now entering a new phase in noble Gaza— the phase of rebuilding, consolation, removing the effects of aggression, and reconstruction. A phase of solidarity and sympathy, through which we reaffirm to the world that we are a free people who build, not destroy, and we will rebuild what was destroyed by the occupation. Just as you were proud during the war, you will remain proud after the war, as we have always known you. We now face a phase of mercy—let us show compassion and solidarity. With God’s help and then with the help of our brothers, sisters, supporters, and solidarity networks, we will rebuild Gaza, alleviate the pain, heal the wounds, comfort orphans, wipe the tears of the bereaved, and bring back the smiles that war took away. Our heroic prisoners are waiting for the dawn of freedom, God willing.

We will continue our efforts with all Palestinian forces and factions to strengthen our national unity and continue the road toward achieving our national goals. In conclusion, this battle began for Al-Quds, and Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa will remain our compass and the title of our jihad and resistance until liberation and the establishment of an independent state with Al-Quds as its capital, God willing.

Greetings to the righteous martyrs.

Greetings to the valiant wounded.

Greetings to the victims and the bereaved.

Greetings to our brave prisoners in the occupation prisons, who are waiting for the dawn of freedom, which will come with the cessation of the aggression, God willing.

Greetings to all those who stood in solidarity with us and supported us with blood, position, and word.

May God’s peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you.
