Vangelis Pissias passed away in the early hours of Wednesday. He was known for his dedication to defending the rights of the Palestinian people and for many years coordinated the One Boat to Gaza Initiative, which is part of the international Free Gaza movement.

Born in 1947 in Alexandria, Egypt, Vangelis lived there until 1962. He was an ardent supporter of political ecology and was actively involved in the fight against Syria’s chemical weapons hydrolysis in the Mediterranean in 2014.

His activism in the field of political and human rights made him the target of attacks from the Israeli side, both official and unofficial. During the dictatorship in Greece, he fought against the junta and then participated in international networks of political and activist action, maintaining relations of respect with the Arab political world.

In the 2014 European elections, he collaborated with the Environmental Greens, strengthening his presence in the country’s political scene.

Many people followed the funeral of Vangellis Pissias in Athens on Monday 11 November, who was buried under a Palestinian and a Greek flag. A representation of the Palestinian Community in Greece was there and hailed him. You can look to images and videos from his funeral in the following link  https://kosmodromio.gr
