As of mid-day Monday, official reports confirmed that the series of powerful earthquakes that struck the border area between Turkey and Syria has left 2,349 dead and nearly 11,000 people injured so far.
The Syrian Foreign Affairs Ministry requested help from the United Nations, the Red Cross, and other international organizations to deal with the humanitarian catastrophe.
More specifically, the Syrian authorities requested help with the search for people alive, rescue of people trapped under the rubble, recovery of corpses, and provision of food and health care, shelter and supplies to people affected by the natural disaster.

There has been no damage to the structures of Akkuyu nuclear power project (NPP) under construction in Turkey, Rosatom said in a statement.
The press service quoted General Director of Akkuyu Nuclear Anastasia Zoteeva saying that earthquake shocks were also felt at the Akkuyu NPP site, “but our specialists did not reveal any damage to building structures, cranes, equipment.”
An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 rocked the province of Kahramanmaras in southwestern Turkey on Monday. Many countries, including Russia, have offered their help to Ankara and Damascus following the quake. Russia’s emergencies ministry said earlier it is ready to send two Il-76 planes with rescuers to Turkey.
