Syria’s air defence systems have repelled an attack by the Israeli air force in the skies over Palmyra, downing several hostile projectiles, according to a 20 April report by Syrian state-run news agency SANA.

Syrian air defence systems confronted “Israeli aggression from Lebanese airspace” and intercepted several missiles, the state-run SANA news agency reported early on Monday.

There were no immediate reports of damages or casualties.

According to unconfirmed reports, the strikes hit territories in the vicinity of Sayyida Zainab belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah militia and the Iranian Quds Force.

Netizens shared video, allegedly showing the moment prior to interception.

​Several other unconfirmed videos and photos, purportedly from the site, emerged online.

Airstrikes are frequently registered in the region, the most recent reported by SANA on 20 April, as the nation’s air defence systems “repelled an attack by the Israeli air force in the skies over Palmyra, downing several hostile projectiles”.
