ATHENS – Serbia is ready for talks about a compromise solution to the Kosovo problem, but if anyone thinks they can come to Belgrade and tell us to recognise Kosovo as an independent country, that is not going to happen, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has told the Greek daily Kathimerini in an interview.

When asked about border correction as a potential part of a solution for the Kosovo crisis, Vucic responded by asking what borders the question was about – those recognised by China, Russia, Greece and Spain, or those recongised by France, Germany, etc.

In response to a reiterated question about a land swap scenario, Vucic recalled Serbia had always been looking for compromise and that it did not want a solution to be imposed that would be in the interest of only one side.

“We are ready and open for talks about any kind of compromise solution. Some people have been mentioning other models but are not offering us anything specific. If anyone thinks they can come to Belgrade and tell us to recognise Kosovo-Metohija as an independent country, that is not going to happen,” Vucic said.

“You will not hear other demands from me except that we want the 100 pct taxes (introduced by Pristina on Serbian goods) lifted. That is why we want to sit down to discuss the problem and try to find a solution,” he said.
