Current editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks Kristinn Hrafnsson said the arrest of Julian Assange represented a “threat to journalism” in an interview with RT from London on Thursday.
“It might have a possible chilling effect on journalists all over the world,” warned Hrafnsson.
“This is a threat to journalism and journalists and the freedom of the media overall,” the Icelandic journalist added. He believed that the US was sending a message not only to the WikiLeaks co-founder, but also to journalists everywhere that exposing US wrongdoing would incur the wrath of the superpower. “What has happened now is what [Assange] expected to happen and he will take on a fight and fight for victory and we will help him out,” vowed Hrafnsson.
Assange was removed from the Ecuadorian embassy in London on Thursday, bringing to an end his seven-year long asylum in the building.
