Turkish Pro-Govt Lawyers Seek Arrest of US Troops at Incirlik Air Base

Posted on

A group of lawyers aligned to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has filed formal charges against a number of US Air Force officers who are stationed at Turkey’s Incirlik Air Base. The complaint accuses them of having ties to terrorist groups, and of being in league with the banned Gulenist organization.
Since the failed 2016 military coup, Erdogan has blamed cleric Fethullah Gulen for plots against him, and has been targeting any and all perceived enemies, accusing them of being in league with Gulen. This is the first time US troops, let alone US troops inside Turkey, have faced such charges

They are openly threatening us. U.S. President Donald Trump is making threats, his helpers are making threats, his finance circles are making threats, his defense circles are making threats, and his foreign affairs circles are making threats. The U.S. administration has launched the fourth leg of the war it started with Russia, China and Iran with Turkey.
Everybody, every group, those secret headquarters that attacked this country on July 15, 2016, that crushed our people under tanks, sprayed bullets and brought this country to the brink of civil war and invasion have once again taken action today.

The economic politics of Turkey’s currency fever

By MURAT YETKİN
August 11 2018

The first news about the Turkish currency crisis on Friday, Aug. 10 was not that Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak’s press conference had been postponed from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. but that there had been a steep increase in the already ascending United States dollar against the Turkish Lira.
As of the evening of Aug. 9, the U.S. dollar traded at 5.50 liras and the euro was at 6.24 liras. It was after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s speech in the evening hours, when he said, “they may have their dollars, but we have our people and God,” that it hit its lowest-ever rate of 6.49. When the postponement of Albayrak’s press conference was announced, the rate began to tumble to the 5.80s.

A Coup Foretold (Turkey and the Neocons)

By Dimitris Konstantakopoulos

Some hours before the Brussels terror attacks, on the other side of the Atlantic, a rather astonishing article was posted on the website of the ultra-hawkish and pro-Israeli American Enterprise Institute. It was written by a known neocon activist with strong ties (at least in the past, but probably also now) with Turkish Kemalists, Michael Rubin. Τhe article was entitled “Could there be a coup in Turkey?” In it, Turkish military are all but strongly advised to overthrow President Erdogan. The author assures them that they have nothing to fear from USA, NATO or Europe if they do it. He is also “describing”, for Erdogan and his closest advisors, a fate not so different than the fate of the overthrown Egyptian President Morsi.
